Gansu Wengfu: Cultivating a Haven of Scholarly Culture in the Desert

At Gansu Wengfu, the seeds of culture are quietly nurtured in the staff bookstore nestled in the desert, which has been officially recognized as a a Provincial-level Staff Bookstore in 2016 and awarded the title of National Federation of Trade Unions Staff Bookstore in 2026. This evolution is not just the upgrading of a single bookstore, but a testament to the gradual enrichment of the spiritual world of the enterprise and its employees.
First built in 2013, the bookstore has witnessed steady growth over more than a decade. Starting with only a few bookshelves and hundreds of books, it now houses over 4,100 volumes covering professional skills, enterprise management, literature and art, life encyclopedias and other categories. It bears witness to the respect for knowledge and persistent pursuit of spiritual life held by generations of employees dedicated to working in the desert.
More than a collection place for books, the bookstore is a haven for employees’ spiritual life. Taking the bookstore as an important platform, the trade union of Gansu Wengfu regularly organizes themed reading sessions and book sharing activities to integrate reading into employees’ daily lives. In the next stage, the company will expand electronic reading resources and explore an integrated online and offline reading service model to facilitate the flow of knowledge and deliver lasting cultural nourishment for all employees.
